About Vice Chancellor

Prof. M. Afshar Alam has served Jamia Hamdard in various capacities. This includes Head, Department of Computer Science for consecutive three terms, Dean of the Faculty of Management and Information Technology as well as Dean, School of Engineering Science and Technology. He has also worked as the Head, Computer Centre; Dean Students Welfare; Foreign Students Advisor for more than 10 years; and Finance Officer for nearly one year. He founded the Computer Centre/Department of Computer Science in Jamia Hamdard. He completed his Master's (MCA) degree from the Aligarh Muslim University and his Ph.D. from Jamia Milia Islamia. His research areas include Software Re-engineering, Data Mining, Bio-Informatics, Fuzzy databases, and Sustainable Development. He is the founding member of the Computer Wide Networking at Jamia Hamdard. In his 25 years of experience in teaching and research, he was invited to many countries across the globe including UAE, Nepal, Syria, Yemen, Iran, KSA, Singapore, Malaysia, and the Republic of China for delivering special lectures, Plenary Talks and as Keynote Speaker in Conferences. He has authored 10 books and has more than 150 research papers in reputed journals to his credit. He has also drafted the curriculum and Bye-Laws for B.Tech, M.Tech, MCA, BCA, and MBA (Health Informatics) courses. The Government of India has included him in many committees. He is serving as the Chairman, of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) for the assessment of Colleges and Universities and also served as a Member of different committees of the University Grants Commission (UGC), All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), Science Engineering and Research Board (SERB), Technical Committee of NCPL, Ministry of Education. In his illustrious career as an academician and researcher, he is conferred with many prestigious awards like AMP Award for Excellence in Education, Cooperative Citizen Award, World Environment Day Award, Spardha Shree Award, Mahatma Gandhi International Peace Award, Bharat Ratna Dr. A.PJ Abdul Kalam Top Icon Award for 2021 and the Time Magazine India’s Excellence Iconic Award 2021, NESA Education Excellence Award 2022. He is also a Fellow Member of the Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and a Life Member of the Computer Society of India (CSI) & Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE).

Experience:
He has more than 25 years of experience in teaching and research. He has guided more than 30 Ph.D. research scholars and also guided more than 200 postgraduate research projects. He has also served as Visiting Professor of Computer Science in national and international universities like Hadhramount University of Science and Technology, Yemen, Aligarh Muslim University, and Jamia Millia Islamia, India. He is also serving as the Editor-in-Chief, Member of Editorial Boards, and Reviewer for many reputed national and international journals. He was also appointed as the Examiner of many national-level examinations like UGC NET, etc. He has also served as a Member of several selection committees for the appointment of Teachers in institutes and universities across India. He was appointed as an external examiner for theory and practical examinations at different universities across India like Jamia Millia Islamia, Indraprastha University, Aligarh Muslim University, Delhi University, Calicut University, and Manipal University, to name a few.
